Asian Quitline employs 14 South Asian counselors who run the telephone counseling service and undertake outreach work.

Counselors speak over 15  South Asian languages and dialects , with several counselors speaking more than one language.

The Health Survey of England-Minority Ethnic Groups 2005 shows that in some groups up to 40% of the people think that they are not competent enough to speak in English to access health services.

We offer a rigorous training programme centered around  smoking cessation and health inequality related areas. Course curriculum can be modified to include additional developmental training on heart disease ( British Heart Foundation), Nicotine replacement therapy and products (from medical experts and the manufactures of products), on Champix (Pfizer), Zyban® (Glaxo-Wellcome) and on other new developments. Participants feed back that they regularly use this training to help them in their smoking cessation counseling, providing additional advice and information to callers.

We also offer other training to support service promotion and provision. We support communities of practice and social capital enhancement. Clients tell us that they have been able to use their networks with community groups, media and faith groups for the dissemination of information and promotion of their smoking cessation activity and recruitment. This shows in the diversity and throuugh put levels of the clinics.

We have developed an excellent national Data Base on South Asian Communities and have extensive networks within the South Asian and main stream media and the various community organizations.

The can also draw upon support, resources and other expertise/services from other QUIT® services.
