Embracing the smoking ban on 1st July 2007

Smoking and tobacco use creates immense suffering and a serious public health burden to society. Nearly 5 million people die PREMATURELY each year from smoking related diseases globally  and countless millions are DISABLED and their quality of life is destroyed through permanent health damage.

In the UK nearly 120,000 people die prematurely each year from a tobacco related illness. This death toll is more than the combined toll of death due to motor accidents, violent crime and suicide. We cannot value or measure the suffering, disability and diminishing of quality of life of those who survive tobacco use related heart disease, cancer treatment, lung disorders and strokes.

From the 1st July 2007, the whole of the United Kingdom will become smoke-free. The Health Act 2006 gives us the opportunity to start afresh by banning smoking in public and workplaces in the UK. This will also include restaurants, pubs, bars, shisha cafes and public transport-including multioccupancy cars and vans used at work.

We support the ban and would like to see a Smoke Free Europe. Support us by respecting the ban and take this opportunity to stop smoking for good.  Make your building, business and community smoke-free.
